Το συγκεκριμένο φράγμα κατασκευάστηκε το 2003 και έχει τη δυναμικότητα αποθήκευσης 700.000 κυβικών νερού. Η απόφαση την οποία υπέγραψε στις 6 Νοεμβρίου η Γραμματέας της Αποκεντρωμένης Διοίκησης Αιγαίου, Μαριάννα Νικολαϊδου, στηρίχθηκε στο αποτέλεσμα έκτακτων ελέγχων που είχαν διενεργηθεί το 2019 από την Δ/νση Περιβάλλοντος Κυκλάδων της Περιφέρειας Ν. Αιγαίου, όπου είχε διαπιστωθεί αφενός η λειτουργία του εν λόγω φράγματος χωρίς περιβαλλοντική αδειοδότηση (είχε λήξει από το 2006) και αφετέρου η διάβρωση του χωμάτινου δρόμου που οδηγεί στο φράγμα με συνέπεια η πρόσβαση είναι σχεδόν αδύνατη, όπως και η σημαντική εκροή νερού από το φράγμα το οποίο δια μέσου γειτονικού ρέματος κατέληγε στη θάλασσα. Ο Δήμος Σερίφου έχει το δικαίωμα να ασκήσει ειδική διοικητική προσφυγή σε βάρος της απόφασης, ενώπιον του υπουργείου Περιβάλλοντος και του αρμόδιου Διοικητικού Πρωτοδικείου.
